Aston Villa advance in Aaron Wan-Bissaka pursuit
Aston Villa are reportedly in advanced negotiations with West Ham united for the acquisition of DR Congo star Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the current transfer window.
The Premier League outfit are preparing for life after Kosta Nedeljkovic. He is expected to join Rangers on a season-long loan with an option to make the deal permanent for around £4 million.
Nedeljkovic’s expected exit would create room for Villa to bring in another right-back, and Wan-Bissaka has now emerged as a strong candidate for the position.
The former Manchester United defender is currently contracted to West Ham, but his future has become uncertain following the club’s relegation from the Premier League. The Hammers are reportedly looking for a fee in the region of £25 million before allowing the 28-year-old to leave.
Wan-Bissaka has not been involved in West Ham’s opening matches of the season. He was absent from the squad for their Carabao Cup win over Notts County and was again left out for the Championship clash with Burnley.
That situation has opened the door for Aston Villa to pursue a deal, with negotiations now believed to have reached an advanced stage.
For Wan-Bissaka, a transfer to Aston Villa would represent a return to Premier League football after West Ham’s relegation. For Unai Emery, the defender would bring experience and provide another option at right-back as Villa strengthen their squad for the season ahead.
Aston Villa will now look to push the negotiations over the line as they attempt to secure Wan-Bissaka before the transfer window closes.
