Asteras Tripolis have submitted a bid for Congolese right-back Peter Kioso, with the Greek Super League side eager to finalise a deal before the end of the transfer window.

The 25-year-old Democratic Republic of Congo international enjoyed a breakthrough campaign with Oxford United last season, making 32 appearances across all competitions, including 30 in the Championship.

His consistency and defensive strength have quickly made him a key figure in the squad and a player of interest abroad.

Reports suggest Tripolis have tabled an offer in the region of €1.5m for the defender, who joined Oxford in 2024 from Rotherham United in a deal worth €820,000.

The Greek club view Kioso as a priority signing to reinforce their right flank and are prepared to hand him a three-year contract.

Oxford United are yet to be persuaded. The English club remain reluctant to lose one of their most dependable players and are currently weighing up the proposal.

While Transfermarkt values Kioso at around €800,000, Oxford see him as integral to their campaign and may demand a higher fee to sanction his departure.

For Asteras Tripolis, securing Kioso would represent both ambition and investment.

The Congolese full-back’s ability to combine defensive solidity with attacking support has made him a standout in England’s second tier, and the club hope he could replicate that influence in Greece.

Kioso’s performances last season underlined his importance, with his energy and tactical awareness proving crucial in Oxford’s Championship run.

His potential move now hinges on negotiations between the two clubs, with Oxford balancing financial considerations against their desire to retain a player who has become central to their plans.

Should the deal go through, Kioso would join a growing number of African players making their mark in European leagues outside the traditional top five.

For now, Asteras Tripolis continue to push for his signature, while Oxford United prepare for their upcoming Championship fixture against Birmingham City, where Kioso remains in contention to feature.

The coming days are likely to prove decisive, with both clubs weighing ambition against necessity in determining the defender’s future.
