Assane Diao linked with AS Roma transfer move

AS Roma have reportedly identified Senegalese winger Assane Diao as a possible attacking reinforcement after uncertainty surrounding their pursuit of Mason Greenwood.

The Serie A club had been linked with a move for Greenwood, with reports suggesting that the English forward had even spoken with Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini about a potential transfer.

However, those plans appear to have changed following developments linking Greenwood with a move to Turkish side Fenerbahçe.

On Wednesday evening, several reports claimed that an agreement between Fenerbahçe and Olympique de Marseille was close to being completed, with the final details of the transfer said to be under discussion.

As Roma continue their search for a new winger, the club are now reportedly looking closer to home for their next attacking option. According to Transferfeed, the Italian giants have turned their attention towards Como forward Assane Diao.

The Senegal international joined Como during the January transfer window, completing a move from Real Betis on 7 January 2025. Since arriving in Italy, the 20-year-old has attracted attention with his physical qualities and attacking ability.

Diao is regarded as a player with significant potential, combining pace, strength and versatility. Standing at 1.85 metres tall, the winger has built a reputation for his explosive running, ability to beat defenders and confidence in front of goal.

His profile is believed to match the type of attacking player Roma are looking for as they prepare for the next stage of their project under Gasperini.

The Giallorossi are searching for additional creativity and speed in wide areas, and Diao’s ability to operate in different attacking positions has reportedly made him an attractive option.

Although no agreement has been reached, Roma’s reported interest highlights the growing reputation of the Senegalese youngster, who continues to develop after moving from Spanish football to Serie A.

The coming weeks could determine whether Roma make an official move for Diao as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.
