ASO Chlef Captain Samir Zaoui Returns for Survival Clash Against USM Alger
Facing relegation danger, ASO Chlef will field a near full-strength squad this Friday in their must-win showdown against USM Alger on the final day of the Algerian Ligue 1 season. Only striker Tedjar is unavailable, while captain Samir Zaoui, despite not being fully fit, has confirmed his intention to play in what may be the most important match of his career.
“I resumed training with my team last Tuesday. I hope to be selected in the list of 18 to help my teammates in this decisive match,” Zaoui told APS.
The 39-year-old veteran, who has served the club for 15 years, had previously announced that he will retire at the end of the season. Now, with ASO Chlef needing a win to avoid relegation, Zaoui hopes to sign off his illustrious career on a positive note.
“I want to leave the football field on a good note by leaving my team in Ligue 1,” he said. “I hope my teammates will grant my wish.”
The captain also issued a subtle warning about the integrity of the match, adding:
“It will be a very difficult match. What I hope is that there will be no recourse to the backstage to determine the winner.”
With emotions running high and both teams desperate to avoid the drop, all eyes will be on Omar Hamadi Stadium this afternoon as ASO Chlef and USM Alger battle for survival.
