Aschalew Sanmarti: Spain-Ethiopia midfielder joins Torre del Mar on free transfer

Spain-Ethiopia midfielder Aschalew Sanmarti has joined UD Torre del Mar on a free transfer from R. B. Linense. The 24-year-old central midfielder has signed a deal running until 30 June 2027 with the Andalusian club.

Sanmarti arrives after a season with Linense, whom he had also joined on a free from Orihuela CF in September 2025. His move continues a career spent largely in Spain’s lower professional tiers, where he has built a reputation as a reliable central option.

Born in Sant Fruitos de Bages and right-footed, Sanmarti has accumulated significant experience in the Segunda Federacion. Across spells with various clubs, he has made more than 100 league appearances in the division’s Group III and Group IV, contributing two goals and substantial minutes in central midfield.

He also has exposure to national knockout competition, having featured in the Copa del Rey and in promotion and relegation play-offs around the Segunda Federacion, adding pressure-match experience to Torre del Mar’s squad.

Sanmarti’s pathway includes time in the youth and under-19 ranks at Cornella after an early grounding in Barcelona’s academy structure, before progressing through loans and permanent moves at Cerdanyola, Manresa and UE Cornella. His highest recorded market valuation reached €50,000 during his Cornella spell.

By committing Sanmarti to a contract through to the summer of 2027, Torre del Mar have secured a centrally based midfielder with established knowledge of Spain’s semi-professional and professional tiers.
