Asante Kotoko beat Kaizer Chiefs on penalties to clinch 2025 Toyota Cup

Asante Kotoko brought smiles to their loyal fans after edging South African giants Kaizer Chiefs 3-2 on penalties to win the 2025 Toyota Cup at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

It was a night to remember for the Porcupine Warriors, thanks to an outstanding performance from goalkeeper Mohammed Camara, who saved four penalties to secure the trophy in a tense shootout.

Coach Karim Zito fielded a determined squad, featuring the likes of new captain Samba O’Neil, Kwame Opoku, and fresh additions Lord Adabo and Seth Kwadwo. Despite a cagey and goalless first half, Kotoko gradually found their rhythm in the second period.

Kwame Opoku nearly found the net early on but missed from close range, while the Chiefs also threatened, with Shinga and Tshabalala going close. Patrick Asiedu’s heroic block in the 69th minute kept Kotoko alive.

Kaizer Chiefs had a golden chance to seal the win late on, but Inacio Miguel fired wide from the spot.

With the game locked after full-time, Camara stepped up to make history for Kotoko with four stunning penalty saves.
