Asante Kotoko FC, a prominent club in the Ghana Premier League, is currently in talks with Ugandan international Steven Desse Mukwala regarding a contract extension. Sources from Africafoot have confirmed that discussions are underway to renew Mukwala’s contract, which is set to expire on June 30.

The proposed extension would see Mukwala remain with the Porcupine Warriors for an additional two years, provided both parties can reach a mutual agreement.

Notably, Mukwala was not among the 18 players recently released by Asante Kotoko, indicating the club’s intent to retain him as a key figure in their squad.

A reliable source close to Mukwala has expressed optimism about the negotiations, stating, “Asante Kotoko has submitted its offer, and negotiations are currently underway.

We are working towards what can be best for Steve, and I’m sure it won’t take too long. It’s two years because he has to have that stability, but also look at what the future holds for him. He is happy at the club, that cannot be questioned.”

Mukwala, valued at €175,000 by Transfermarkt, has had an impressive stint with Asante Kotoko since joining in 2022. Last season, he was the second top scorer in the Ghana Premier League, netting 14 goals in 28 matches.

Over his tenure with the club, he has accumulated 25 goals in 59 appearances, showcasing his consistent scoring ability.

Before his time at Asante Kotoko, Mukwala played for several notable clubs in Uganda. He began his career with Vipers SC, a six-time Uganda Premier League champion, and later joined Maroons FC.

His last Ugandan team before making the move to Ghana was URA FC.

On the international stage, Mukwala has made significant contributions to Uganda’s national team, the Cranes. Since his debut in 2021, he has earned 11 caps, scoring three goals and providing two assists.

He featured prominently in Uganda’s recent 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Botswana and Algeria, demonstrating his value at both the club and international levels.

As negotiations continue, both Mukwala and Asante Kotoko are hopeful of reaching an agreement that will see the talented striker continue his journey with the club.

Mukwala’s potential extension is seen as a strategic move to ensure stability and build on the successes he has already achieved with the team.

With the transfer window poised to be a busy period for Asante Kotoko, retaining Mukwala could be a critical factor in their plans for the upcoming season.

The club’s management and fans alike are keen to see the striker continue to contribute to their pursuit of domestic and continental success.
