Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa has cemented his place in AS Roma folklore. The Franco-Central African defender became a Giallorossi hero last Monday by scoring the decisive goal in the 85th minute of the fiercely contested derby against Lazio — a match that determined second place in Serie A and a direct ticket to the Champions League.
Speaking to Tele Radio Stereo, Yanga-Mbiwa shared his emotions:
“I’m very happy to have scored this goal, but the most important thing is that I helped the team,” he said. “This match was very important for the whole city, and today I truly understand what it means to have won the derby thanks to me.”
A goal, a derby win, and a Champions League place — a night to remember for Yanga-Mbiwa and the Roma faithful.
