AS Roma are considering a fresh move for Jamie Leweling as they prepare for the January transfer window, with the Stuttgart winger again featuring among their priorities.
According to Tuttomercatoweb, the Serie A club are monitoring the German-Ghanaian as they look to strengthen their wide attacking options and maintain their challenge for the Scudetto.
Leweling was close to joining Roma during last summer’s transfer window, but the proposed move collapsed in the final hours before the deadline. The player has therefore remained on the club’s radar, and the Italian side could reopen discussions when the market resumes in January.
Roma are seeking greater depth on the flanks, an area they regard as important to their hopes of sustaining their challenge during the second half of the season. Bringing in another winger would give the manager more attacking options and provide additional cover as the campaign progresses.
Leweling’s current season at Stuttgart has not developed as expected. His performances have dipped compared with what had been anticipated, but he recently demonstrated that he remains capable of influencing important matches.
He scored a significant goal in Stuttgart’s draw against Atletico de Madrid in the Champions League. That contribution underlined his ability to make an impact at the highest level, despite a less convincing run of form overall.
For Roma, Leweling could offer the opportunity to revisit a player they had already examined in detail several months ago. However, any renewed interest would still depend on the two clubs reaching an agreement, something they were unable to do during the previous transfer window.
Roma looking to stay in title race
Roma are currently third in Serie A and intend to use the winter market to strengthen their squad and preserve their domestic ambitions. They are four points behind leaders Lazio and do not want to lose further ground in the Scudetto race.
The club’s interest in Leweling is therefore linked not only to the player’s qualities but also to the need for greater squad depth. An additional wide option would allow Roma to manage the demands of the second half of the campaign more effectively.
Whether the club will make a formal approach for the Stuttgart player in January remains uncertain. The possibility of a move is currently being reported by the Italian press, but there has been no confirmed offer or agreement.
Stuttgart will soon play their German league match in matchday eight against Bayer Leverkusen. The listed odds for the fixture are 3.95 for a Stuttgart victory, 4.40 for a draw and 1.76 for a Bayer Leverkusen win.
