AS Roma officials travel to England to negotiate deal to sign Dutch-Nigerian striker Joshua Zirkzee
Officials of AS Roma have reportedly travelled to England to negotiate a deal to sign Dutch forward of Nigerian descent, Joshua Zirkzee.
Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport reports that Roma sporting director Frederic Massara and Chief Football Operating Officer Maurizio Lombardo are currently in London, where discussions are underway over a potential move for the Manchester United striker.
The Serie A side are said to be engaged on multiple fronts, holding parallel talks with Manchester United as well as Zirkzee’s representatives. The proposed structure under consideration is believed to include a mandatory summer transfer with payments spread over time, reflecting the financial realities many clubs are navigating.
Zirkzee is understood to be eager for consistent playing time and is reportedly unwilling to wait until the closing stages of the January transfer window for clarity on his future. Manchester United, however, are said to prefer delaying any decision until after players return from the Africa Cup of Nations.
Massara and Lombardo are continuing discussions with the player’s camp while applying pressure on United, as Roma are keen to secure a proven attacking option capable of making an immediate impact under head coach Gian Piero Gasperini.
Zirkzee has featured nine times for United this season, finding the net once.
