Mehdi Benatia, widely regarded as one of the top defenders in Serie A, has been named the player of the season at Roma. Despite attracting interest from several top clubs such as Bayern Munich, Chelsea, and Manchester United, the Moroccan is keen on staying at Roma for the long term. He expresses his satisfaction with the club, stating, “I feel good in Rome and I want to stay here for a long time. I am happy and I believe that we will win something important soon. This locker room is hungry for success.”
However, reports suggest that Benatia is seeking a significant increase in his salary. He is currently earning 1.2 million euros per year but is requesting a salary of 2.8 million euros per year. Roma has thus far rejected all offers from clubs looking to acquire Benatia’s services, indicating their desire to keep him at the club. Therefore, it is expected that his contract extension with Roma will be finalized without major issues.
