AS Monaco shortlist French-Senegalese defender Éric Bocat as Burnley join transfer race
AS Monaco have added Stoke City full-back Éric Bocat to their shortlist as they continue their search for a new left-back.
According to transfer reporter Sacha Tavolieri, Monaco have already made contact with Stoke over a potential move for the 27-year-old.
However, no immediate agreement is expected as the French club weigh up their options.
Monaco need left-back reinforcement
Monaco’s need for another player in the position follows the departures of two left-backs this summer.
Caio Henrique moved to Ajax, while his deputy Kassoum Ouattara joined Besiktas on a permanent deal.
The Ligue 1 side have already brought in Nazinho from partner club Cercle Brugge, with the Portugal youth international starting Sunday’s league opener against Le Havre.
Christian Mawissa can also operate at left-back and filled the position during Monaco’s UEFA Europa Conference League match in midweek.
Despite those options, Monaco are still looking to strengthen the position before the transfer window closes.
Burnley and Köln also interested
Bocat has emerged as one of the players under consideration, although Monaco face competition for his signature.
Championship club Burnley are also reportedly interested in the Frenchman, while German side FC Köln have joined the race.
For now, Monaco’s contact with Stoke represents an initial step rather than an imminent transfer, with the French club yet to reach an agreement for the full-back.
