AS Monaco approach Pape Matar Sarr over possible loan move

AS Monaco have reportedly made an approach to sign Senegal and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pape Matar Sarr in the current transfer window.

As per reports, the Principality club are seeking for a season-long loan acquisition for the 23-year-old midfielder.

The discussions have reportedly focused on Monaco’s sporting project and the financial terms that would be involved should the midfielder make the temporary switch to France.

A move to Monaco would represent a return to the country where Sarr began his European career. The Senegalese midfielder previously played for Metz before earning a move to Tottenham, giving him experience of French football.

Monaco’s interest comes at a time when Sarr’s immediate situation at Tottenham is attracting attention.

The 23-year-old was not included in Tottenham’s squad for their opening Premier League match against Brentford at the weekend, prompting questions about his availability and role at the beginning of the new campaign.

However, Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi explained that Sarr’s absence was not linked to a transfer decision, confirming that the midfielder missed the match because of a minor hamstring injury.

The injury could therefore complicate the timing of any potential loan move, although Monaco are continuing to assess the situation.

Sarr remains under contract with Tottenham and has been viewed as an important young midfielder with the ability to contribute both defensively and offensively. His physical strength, energy and ability to cover ground have made him a useful option in midfield.

For Monaco, securing Sarr on loan would provide the club with an opportunity to add a young player with top-level Premier League experience without committing to a permanent transfer.

The French side will now wait to see whether discussions with the player’s camp can progress and whether Tottenham would be prepared to sanction a temporary departure.

At this stage, there is no agreement between the clubs, with negotiations still at an exploratory stage.

Sarr’s future could therefore become one of the stories to follow as the transfer window approaches its closing stages, particularly if Monaco intensify their efforts to bring the Senegal international back to France.
