AS Kaloum Set to Face Orlando Pirates in Crucial CAF Cup Play-Off
After their exit in the Round of 16 of the CAF Champions League, AS Kaloum of Conakry are now aiming to bounce back by qualifying for the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup. However, before reaching the group phase, the Guinean side must navigate the play-off round, where they will face the formidable Orlando Pirates from South Africa.
In an interview with Foot224, AS Kaloum captain Ben Adama shared his thoughts on the upcoming tie and his team’s chances.
“It’s a good draw, though I wouldn’t say it’s a guaranteed success,” he said. “Compared to bigger names like Étoile du Sahel or Club Africain, it could be seen as favourable. But that’s the nature of the draw—we have to face whoever comes our way.”
Adama acknowledged the experience and pedigree of Orlando Pirates, describing them as “regulars in the competition” who have the advantage of familiarity with the tournament’s demands.
“Orlando Pirates have some control over the parameters compared to us,” he noted. “But we don’t want to make a second mistake. Everyone is keen to learn from past experiences, and we’re determined to do our part to secure qualification.”
The tie promises to be a stern test for AS Kaloum, who will be eager to regain continental momentum and extend their campaign in African club football. The coming matches against the South African giants will be crucial in defining their season.
