Defending champions Pyramids FC were eliminated from the 2025/26 CAF Champions League after a 2–1 home defeat to AS FAR at the 30 June Stadium on Saturday night, sealing a 3–2 aggregate loss.

The Egyptian side, who arrived in Cairo with a slight advantage following a 1–1 first-leg draw in Rabat, saw their title defence unravel against a disciplined and clinical Moroccan outfit.

AS FAR struck early to seize control of the tie, with Reda Salim opening the scoring in the ninth minute to silence the home crowd. The early breakthrough forced Pyramids onto the front foot, but despite enjoying spells of possession, they struggled to break down a well-organised defence.

The visitors extended their lead shortly after the restart when Mohamed Hrimat finished off a swift attacking move in the 54th minute, putting AS FAR firmly in command and leaving the hosts needing a response.

Pyramids did find a way back into the contest through Fiston Mayele, who reduced the deficit in the 62nd minute to revive hopes of a comeback. However, despite increased pressure and late attacking efforts, the holders were unable to find the crucial equaliser that would have kept their campaign alive.

The result represents a major upset, with Pyramids widely tipped to mount a strong defence of the title they won last season against Mamelodi Sundowns. Instead, their continental journey ends at the quarter-final stage.

For AS FAR, the victory carries added significance, serving as revenge after their elimination by Pyramids at the same stage last season. The Moroccan side now advance to the semi-finals, where they will face either RS Berkane or Al Hilal Omdurman.

The Rabat-based club remains in pursuit of a first Champions League title since 1985, while Pyramids must now regroup domestically after falling short in their bid to establish a sustained continental dynasty.
