CAF Champions League: AS FAR reach quarter-finals after goalless draw in Cairo

Moroccan side AS FAR (Royal Army) is preparing an official letter to the Confederation of African Football and the Egyptian authorities ahead of their CAF Champions League quarter-final against Pyramids.

The club wants several assurances in place before travelling to Cairo for the second leg in March.

FAR were drawn against defending champions Pyramids in a high-profile tie, with the return match to be played in the Egyptian capital.

The Moroccan club is particularly wary of a repeat of the tense scenes they experienced recently against Al Ahly at Cairo International Stadium.

In that group-stage game, some Al Ahly fans threw water bottles at FAR players, in reaction to incidents that had taken place during the first meeting between the sides in Morocco.

According to Moroccan newspaper Al Akhbar, FAR will coordinate early with CAF and Egyptian officials to strengthen security guarantees for the team’s trip.

The club will request tighter protection at their hotel, as well as secure corridors for players entering and leaving the stadium on matchday, hoping to ensure the focus stays firmly on football when they face Pyramids.
