Mikel Arteta says Bukayo Saka’s injury “does not look good” after the Arsenal winger was forced off early in the 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
Saka left the field in the 10th minute at Allianz Arena after appearing to hurt his left thigh while falling as he attempted to pass the ball. Eberechi Eze replaced him.
“When a player has to come off because he feels a sharp pain, it is never good news,” Arsenal manager Arteta told TNT Sports. “We have to wait and see what happens.”
The Spaniard added: “It does not look good at all, but we have to wait to find out more.”
Arsenal will now await the results of medical tests to establish the extent of Saka’s injury and how long he could be unavailable. The England winger has already experienced a number of fitness problems in recent seasons.
He missed seven matches last season with an Achilles tendon problem and underwent hamstring surgery in December 2024, an operation that kept him out for more than three months.
The timing is particularly difficult for Arsenal, who are also without Christos Tzolis after the player suffered a hamstring injury during the international break.
The draw in Munich came in the third round of the Champions League league phase. Eze put Arsenal ahead in the 25th minute, before Bayern equalised through Alphonso Davies 10 minutes before half-time.
Harry Kane then put the German side in front from the penalty spot in the 61st minute, but Declan Rice rescued a point for Arsenal with an equaliser in the 82nd minute.
Rice’s late goal denied Kane the chance to mark another personal milestone with victory. The England captain scored his 58th Champions League goal, moving above former Bayern Munich team-mate Thomas Muller in the competition’s all-time scoring list.
Kane is now 10th in the Champions League’s historic goalscorer rankings.
The result leaves Arsenal with seven points in seventh place after three matches of the league phase. Bayern Munich have five points and sit 14th.
Bayern midfielder Joshua Kimmich did not play in the match following the death of his father.
