Arsenal have decided not to comment on the rape and sexual assault charges levelled against former player Thomas Partey.
According to the club, the decision not to comment on the matter is because of the ongoing legal proceedings.
“The player’s contract ended on June 30. Due to ongoing legal proceedings, the club is unable to comment on the case,” Arsenal told BBC Sport after the media outlet contacted the English Premier League club for a reaction.
Ghana international Thomas Partey has been slapped with various charges including five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault in a case involving three women.
He is accused of committing the offences between 2021 and 2022. Two of the rape charges relate to one woman, while three others involve a second woman. The sexual assault charge involves a third woman.
In a statement from his lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire, Thomas Partey denied all the charges levelled against him.
The lawyer noted that Thomas Partey welcomes the opportunity to clear his name.
“Thomas Partey denies all the charges against him.
“He has fully cooperated with the police and CPS throughout their three-year investigation.
“He now welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name,” the lawyer said in the statement.
Jenny Wiltshire added, “Given that there are now ongoing legal proceedings, my client is unable to comment further.”
Meanwhile, Partey is expected to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 5 August.
