Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United make enquiries about Bayern Munich teenager Lennart Karl

Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United have contacted Bayern Munich to ask about the situation of 18-year-old attacking midfielder Lennart Karl.

The England trio are monitoring Karl after his performances in attack for the German club, with renewed attention on the teenager following recent debate over his standing at Bayern Munich and his future.

Bild journalist Christian Falk said officials from all three Premier League clubs had spoken to him by telephone to seek information about Karl’s position. Falk was speaking to Julian Agardi, Bayern Munich’s club reporter, on the Bild programme Bayern Insider.

The interest from England comes after Karl became the focus of criticism from Bayern Munich patron Uli Hoeness. Hoeness said the youngster was “still a long way from being a superstar” and stressed that young players needed to remain humble.

He also rejected comparisons between Karl and Michael Olise, saying the difference between the two players was still significant.

Falk said Bayern Munich would seek €60m for Karl, a figure Premier League clubs would be capable of paying. However, he added that no negotiations had yet begun over a new contract for the player.

Despite the growing interest, Falk ruled out Bayern Munich allowing their academy graduate to leave. The club do not intend to sell Karl and would not accept a small fee for him, particularly because they see him as part of the team’s future.

The latest developments come after comments from Bayern Munich sporting director Jan-Christian Dreesen. In a recent interview with Sport Bild, Dreesen said the club had the financial strength to afford the cost of any transfer.

Karl’s contract with Bayern Munich runs until 2029. The agreement he signed on his 18th birthday was subsequently converted into a professional contract.
