Arsenal join Liverpool and Newcastle United in pursuit of Chelsea defender Josh Acheampong
Arsenal have entered the race to sign Chelsea defender Josh Acheampong, with the 20-year-old attracting growing interest from clubs across Europe.
The England international of Ghanaian heritage has steadily demonstrated his potential since emerging at Chelsea. His defensive strength, versatility and comfort in possession have made him an appealing target, while his ability to play at both right-back and centre-back would offer Mikel Arteta another option in defence.
According to Simon Phillips, Arsenal are among the clubs monitoring Acheampong’s situation. Liverpool, Newcastle United and Bournemouth are also interested in the young defender.
Chelsea, however, are keen to retain the player and have no immediate plans to sanction his departure. The club are pleased with his performances and recognise the increasing attention surrounding him.
The London club are considering offering Acheampong a new long-term contract to secure his future at Stamford Bridge. A renewal would strengthen Chelsea’s position in any negotiations and make it more difficult for their Premier League rivals to pursue a transfer.
Acheampong is currently under contract with Chelsea until 30 June 2029. Transfermarkt values him at 30 million euros, and a further improvement in his performances could place the Blues in an even stronger position in the market.
Chelsea’s next fixture is their seventh match of the English championship, against Everton.
