Arsenal complete Bruno Guimaraes deal after Newcastle midfielder passes medical
Arsenal have completed the signing of Brazil midfielder Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United after he successfully passed his medical, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The 28-year-old has signed a four-year contract with the Gunners, with the agreement including an option to extend his stay for a further season.
The transfer was concluded after intensive negotiations between Arsenal and Newcastle, with Guimaraes identified as the north London club’s leading target to strengthen their midfield during the current summer transfer window.
Arsenal will pay £75m for the player in three instalments, with the fee structured as three annual payments of £25m.
The move represents a major addition for Arsenal as they prepare for the new season and continue their pursuit of domestic and European honours. Guimaraes is expected to form an impressive midfield partnership with England international Declan Rice.
Guimaraes has established himself as an influential player in the Premier League since joining Newcastle from Lyon. His performances last season included nine goals and seven assists in all competitions.
His departure is a significant blow for Newcastle, who agreed to sell the midfielder after he expressed a desire to take on a new challenge. The club are expected to look for a replacement before the transfer window closes, with Luka Sucic among the leading names being considered.
Guimaraes is expected to join Arsenal training in the coming days as the club continue their preparations for the new season.
The transfer brings to an end a period of negotiations between the two clubs over one of Arsenal’s main midfield priorities. His passing ability, energy and attacking contribution are expected to add further quality to Mikel Arteta’s squad, while his experience in the Premier League should allow him to settle quickly.
For Newcastle, the focus now turns to identifying a suitable successor for a player who has played a prominent role since arriving from Lyon. The club’s interest in Luka Sucic indicates that recruitment plans are already being considered following the agreement with Arsenal.
The deal was reported on Thursday, 6 August 2026, at 11:58 by FilGoal, citing Romano’s confirmation that the medical had been completed and the contract signed.
