Mikel Arteta is plotting a bold move to bolster Arsenal’s backline for the 2025/26 campaign, with Barcelona’s Jules Kounde topping his wishlist, according to El Nacional.
The Arsenal boss sees the French defender, often deployed as a right-back, as the ideal fit for his tactical vision, blending pace, technical flair, and sharp game-reading skills.
Barcelona, however, have no intention of letting Kounde go. The 25-year-old has been a cornerstone of their robust defense this season under Hansi Flick’s leadership. His ability to adapt across roles has made him a vital asset at the Camp Nou.
Barcelona’s sporting director, Joan Laporta, views Kounde as a key long-term investment after his €50m move from Sevilla. His maturity, consistency, and integration into the dressing room have made him a central figure at the club. Kounde has repeatedly expressed his happiness at Barcelona and has no desire to leave.
Flick has spoken highly of Kounde’s leadership, both on and off the field, recognizing him as a “silent leader.” His understanding with teammates like Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez has been a key factor in Barcelona’s solid defensive record this season.
Arsenal’s hopes of landing Kounde face a steep challenge. Even if Barcelona needed to raise funds due to financial fair play regulations, Kounde would not be one of the players considered for sale, given his form and value to the club.
For now, Kounde remains firmly rooted in Barcelona’s plans.
