Benik Afobe, once hailed as one of Arsenal’s brightest prospects, has struggled to secure a spot in the Gunners’ first team. Consequently, he has departed the Emirates Stadium and been loaned to Sheffield Wednesday, an English second division club. Arsenal made the announcement official through their website and Twitter account:
“Afobe joins Sheffield Wednesday on loan. Arsenal Football Club confirms that Benik Afobe has joined Championship side Sheffield Wednesday on loan until the end of the 2013/14 season.
Of Congolese origin, Afobe began his journey with Arsenal at the age of eight, progressing through the ranks and showcasing his goal-scoring prowess in various youth categories. He earned his first professional contract with the club in February 2010.
