Injury-Hit Diaby to Miss Arsenal’s Clash with Chelsea
By BBC News Staff
Arsenal midfielder Abou Diaby has been ruled out of Sunday’s Premier League showdown against Chelsea as he continues to struggle with lingering pain in his left hip.
The French international made a brief return to action last week in the League Cup, raising hopes of a long-awaited comeback. However, manager Arsène Wenger has confirmed that Diaby remains too fragile to feature and will not be risked in the high-profile clash at Stamford Bridge.
“Abou is still feeling discomfort in his hip,” Wenger explained. “Given his injury history, we’re not taking any chances. He needs more time.”
Diaby’s career has been plagued by recurring injuries, and Wenger has consistently expressed caution when managing the 28-year-old’s fitness. Despite showing glimpses of his former self in limited appearances, Diaby’s physical condition continues to hinder his return to regular top-flight football.
Arsenal are also without Theo Walcott, Serge Gnabry (both recovering from knee injuries), and Yaya Sanogo (thigh), though all three are expected to be available after the upcoming international break.
There is, however, some positive news for the Gunners. Spanish full-back Nacho Monreal is set to return to the squad after overcoming a back issue that has sidelined him in recent weeks. His availability will provide additional depth in defence as Arsenal prepare to face league leaders Chelsea.
The North London side will be hoping to improve their record against José Mourinho’s side, particularly after last season’s heavy 6-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge. Wenger will be looking for a composed performance from his squad despite the absence of several key players.
Kick-off for Sunday’s much-anticipated clash is scheduled for 2:05 p.m. at Stamford Bridge.
