Arne Slot to punish Mohamed Salah after explosive Liverpool comments
Mohamed Salah could reportedly face a harsh punishment from Arne Slot following the Egyptian star’s controversial public comments about Liverpool FC’s playing style.
According to reports from the English press, Slot is considering leaving Salah out of the starting lineup, or even excluding him entirely from Liverpool’s upcoming Premier League clash against Brentford FC at Anfield.
The match is expected to be Salah’s final appearance in a Liverpool shirt, making the situation even more dramatic for the club’s supporters.
Salah criticises Liverpool’s identity under Slot
The tension escalated after Salah posted strong comments on Instagram following Liverpool’s defeat to Aston Villa FC in the Premier League.
The Egyptian forward appeared to criticise the tactical approach introduced by Slot this season.
“I want to see Liverpool return to being that roaring attacking team that rival teams fear,” Salah wrote.
“This is the football I know how to play, and this is the identity that must be restored. This cannot be negotiable, and everyone who joins this club must adapt to it.”
The comments quickly generated major reactions among supporters and football analysts, with many interpreting the message as direct criticism of Slot’s style of play.
Former goalkeeper claims relationship has been strained
Former Premier League goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes Salah’s emotional reaction reflects deeper tensions that have existed between the player and manager throughout the season.
Speaking to the BBC, Robinson suggested the relationship had been deteriorating for some time.
“I’m not surprised, to be honest. You could see it in his body language and the way he was playing,” Robinson said.
“The relationship with the manager had been strained for a long time since he was dropped from the squad.”
Robinson also questioned whether Slot’s tactical system suited Salah’s strengths.
“I think the style of play wasn’t really suited to him. The team became too reliant on possession, preferring to drop back and circulate the ball, rather than create chances,” he added.
Painful ending possible for Liverpool legend
According to reports from the Mirror, sources close to the club believe Slot is leaning toward disciplinary action following Salah’s public criticism.
If the Dutch coach follows through with the decision, Salah could miss the opportunity to say goodbye to the Anfield crowd on the pitch after a legendary spell with the club.
Mohamed Salah has endured a difficult campaign under Slot, with many observers noting a decline in his influence as Liverpool shifted toward a more possession-based and conservative approach.
For Liverpool supporters, the possibility of Salah’s farewell ending away from the pitch would represent a painful conclusion to one of the greatest careers in the club’s modern history.
During his years at Anfield, Salah established himself as one of the club’s greatest players, winning major trophies and becoming one of the most iconic figures ever to wear the Liverpool shirt.
