Mohamed Salah to play key role for Liverpool in remainder of 2025/26 season

Arne Slot has openly underlined the significance of Mohamed Salah to Liverpool FC as the season approaches its final stretch, with uncertainty still surrounding the forward’s future at the club.

The Reds are gearing up for a demanding encounter against Crystal Palace at Anfield on Saturday, as part of the thirty-fourth round of the Premier League campaign.

Liverpool head into the fixture sitting fifth on the table with 55 points, while Crystal Palace occupy thirteenth position with 43 points.

Salah’s Final Chapter in Sight

Salah has already confirmed that he will leave Liverpool at the end of the current season, signalling the closing chapter of a remarkable spell at the club. The Egyptian forward is determined to bow out in style by delivering strong performances and adding to his goal tally in the remaining matches.

There is also a historic milestone within reach. If he starts and scores against Crystal Palace, Salah could become the oldest player to both start and score in four consecutive matches at 33 years and 314 days, surpassing the record set by Cristiano Ronaldo in May 2022.

Slot Reflects on Team’s Scoring Struggles

Speaking during his pre-match press conference, Slot emphasised the importance of goals to Liverpool’s identity, while acknowledging a slight dip in attacking output this season.

“It is very important for us to have strikers who score goals. Last season’s success depended on having several strikers who scored a lot of goals, but this season we are not scoring as much. There is a slight decrease in creating chances, but not to the extent expected in scoring goals.”

The Dutch coach also echoed Salah’s own perspective on form and momentum in front of goal.

“As Salah has said time and time again, there is always a period in the season when the ball comes to you easily and you need less effort to score, and other periods when you exert a lot of effort to no avail. Usually, things return to normal, and normal for Salah at Liverpool is scoring goals.”

Waiting for a Strong Finish

As Liverpool push to finish the season strongly, all eyes remain on Salah, whose influence continues to shape the team’s attacking threat.

With his departure looming, the final weeks of the campaign could define how the Egyptian star’s time at Anfield is remembered.
