ARGENTINA: GUNSHOT WOUNDS! WHERE ARE WE GOING ?

Images

The incident that occurred yesterday near Buenos Aires underscores the alarming escalation of violence within the football community. A violent clash erupted among rival supporters of the 2nd division Argentinian club Banfield, resulting in six individuals sustaining injuries. What’s particularly concerning is that the confrontation involved the use of live ammunition, posing a grave threat to public safety.

This unsettling incident unfolded following Banfield’s victory against Almirante Brown (2-1) in their stadium located on the southern outskirts of Buenos Aires. The clash highlights the ongoing power struggle among “barrabravas” or hooligans, who vie for control over supporters’ clubs responsible for managing ticket sales and parking around stadiums.

In response to such incidents, the government has imposed restrictions on fan travel. However, as evidenced by yesterday’s confrontation, more comprehensive measures are needed to address the underlying issues fueling football-related violence in Argentina.
