Diego Maradona Hospitalised for Routine Medical Check-Up, Daughter Confirms
Argentine football icon Diego Maradona was hospitalised on Wednesday, sparking concern among fans and media. However, his daughter has moved quickly to reassure the public, clarifying that the visit was planned and not the result of any medical emergency.
Dalma Maradona addressed the rumours via Twitter, stating: “Since the news of my father’s hospitalization has already leaked, I inform you that it is only for a general check-up. Thank you for your concern. I thank you for your respect.”
She also appealed for calm and urged people not to speculate: “I ask that we not invent things that do not exist.”
The 53-year-old former Napoli and Argentina captain has experienced several health issues in the past, notably linked to his well-documented struggles with substance abuse. These have led to hospitalisations over the years, making any news of his medical status a source of public interest.
This latest hospital visit, however, appears to be nothing out of the ordinary. Maradona, regarded as one of the greatest players in football history, remains a prominent and often controversial figure in the sport and in Argentina, where he is revered.
For now, his fans can breathe easy: this was simply a routine check-up, and not a medical emergency.
