Arbeloa to decide Kylian Mbappe fate ahead of Manchester City showdown

Real Madrid received a significant boost on Monday as Kylian Mbappé returned to training at the Valdebebas complex following a week of specialized medical evaluations in Paris.

The French forward had been sidelined since early March to address a persistent left knee sprain, an injury that has hampered his availability intermittently since December.

Mbappé’s return comes at a critical juncture for the Spanish giants. While he was officially discharged from full-time medical supervision this afternoon, club sources indicate his reintegration remains cautious.

The 27-year-old France international of Cameroonian descent participated in individual light running drills and mobility exercises under the guidance of fitness coaches.

The technical staff, led by manager Alvaro Arbeloa, expects him to gradually rejoin full team dynamics throughout the week as he continues “specific medical treatment” alongside the squad.

The timing of his recovery is pivotal ahead of Wednesday’s high-stakes Champions League Round of 16 first-leg clash against Manchester City. Mbappé has missed Real Madrid’s last three competitive fixtures while undergoing conservative treatment in the French capital.

His presence in the matchday squad remains a subject of intense speculation; although he is back on the grass, Arbeloa must decide whether to risk his star striker in the starting lineup or utilize him as a high-impact substitute.

Statistically, Mbappé remains the cornerstone of Madrid’s offensive strategy this season. Despite recent fitness hurdles, he has recorded an extraordinary 38 goals and 5 assists in 33 appearances across all competitions.

His efficiency in the Champions League has been particularly clinical, netting 13 goals in just 8 matches. As the club enters the decisive phase of the 2025–26 campaign, his return to the training ground signals a major lift for a squad aiming to secure both domestic and European honors.
