Morocco’s national A’ team coach, Tarik Sektioui, has confirmed that his side will pursue a win against Saudi Arabia in the final group-stage match of the Arab Cup, aiming to top Group B and secure a strong quarter-final position.

“A draw would take us through, but we are focused on victory. Our goal is to finish first in the group,” Sektioui said during a press briefing ahead of Monday’s clash at Lusail Stadium, scheduled for 18:00 GMT+1.

He described Saudi Arabia as a “serious contender for the title” and stressed the importance of humility and respect for opponents, noting that the competitive gap in the Arab Cup has narrowed significantly during the group stage.

Sektioui confirmed that goalkeeper Mehdi Benabid remains the first-choice for the team, explaining that Salaheddine Chihab’s selection against Comoros was a strategic decision to rest Benabid and minimize injury risk.

The coach emphasized that squad decisions reflect a balance of tactical preparation and player welfare.

Players are responding positively to the preparations. Wydad Casablanca forward Mohamed Moufid highlighted the team’s determination to secure a win against Saudi Arabia, noting that such matches are often decided by fine margins.

“We know the responsibility we carry and are focused on delivering on the pitch,” Moufid said.

Saudi Arabia’s assistant coach, François Rodrigues, confirmed that the team is approaching the match with seriousness despite already qualifying for the quarter-finals.

Rodrigues indicated the possibility of rotating the squad but stressed that the primary objective remains a clean sheet, contrasting with previous performances where defensive lapses occurred.

The final fixture in Group B, Comoros versus Oman, will also take place on Monday in Doha at 18:00 GMT+1, rounding out a decisive day for group standings and quarter-final placements.
