The Appeals Committee of the Egyptian Football Association (EFA), led by Mohamed Abdo Saleh, has firmly backed the EFA Council’s decision to cancel the three-point deduction initially imposed on Al Ahly after their no-show in the March 11 clash against Zamalek.
Al Ahly had withdrawn in protest over the appointment of foreign referees, prompting the Competitions Committee to issue a 0-3 loss and dock three points. However, the League Board later reversed the point deduction, maintaining only the match result.
On Thursday, the Appeals Committee rejected all challenges to that reversal. Appeals filed by Zamalek and Pyramids, demanding the reinstatement of the three-point penalty against Al Ahly, were dismissed. Al Ahly’s own appeal to overturn the 0-3 loss ruling was also denied.
In its official statement, the committee supported changes to the league rules, recommending the removal of articles blocking board decision appeals and updating force majeure criteria to align with FIFA.
Al Ahly currently lead the league with 52 points, just two ahead of Pyramids.
