The future of Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush at Manchester City looks increasingly uncertain, with the player now closer to leaving in the upcoming winter transfer window in search of a new challenge.
Marmoush joined City last January from Eintracht Frankfurt but has struggled to secure a regular place in Pep Guardiola’s starting line-up this season. In the Premier League, he has featured in 10 matches, eight of them as a substitute, playing only 206 minutes, providing one assist and failing to score so far.
City are preparing to reinforce their attack in January with the signing of Ghanaian striker Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth, a move that could further reduce Marmoush’s opportunities. English outlets report that Semenyo prefers a switch to City despite interest from Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool.
The British newspaper Mirror noted that City’s pursuit of Semenyo raises serious questions over Marmoush’s future at the Etihad, especially as the Egyptian could find himself out of the manager’s plans while Semenyo competes for a starting place and Marmoush is away at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Marmoush had previously attracted attention from several Premier League clubs, including an early link with Tottenham, before opting to join City. Semenyo, meanwhile, will remain available for Bournemouth domestically, as Ghana failed to qualify for AFCON 2025 in Morocco.
