Ghana international Antoine Semenyo has completely smashed the transfer record of Ghana and AFC Bournemouth, following his £65 million move to Manchester City in the current window.

The Premier League football powerhouse triggered Semenyo’s release clause, with the pacey attacker signing a five-and-a-half-year contract that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2031.

Semenyo put pen to paper on Friday morning after completing his mandatory medical on Thursday morning, a day after featuring for Bournemouth against Tottenham Hotspur in what proved to be his final appearance for the Cherries.

With this move, the Ghana international becomes Bournemouth’s most expensive transfer in history, and also the biggest transfer involving a Ghanaian footballer.

“We can confirm that Antoine Semenyo has joined Manchester City for a club-record fee. Everyone at AFC Bournemouth wishes you nothing but the best, Ant” wrote the club.

Semenyo enjoyed a meteoric rise to become one of the Premier League’s most feared forwards after joining Bournemouth in January 2023.

Born in London to Ghanaian parents, Semenyo started his professional career at Bristol City before loan spells at Bath City, Newport County and Sunderland, further honing his craft.

After impressing at Ashton Gate, Bournemouth spotted his potential and captured his signature midway through the 2022/23 season from where his career has gone from strength to strength ever since.

Semenyo established himself as one Bournemouth’s most consistent performers this season, racking up 10 goals and providing three assists in the Premier League, further underlining his growing influence in England’s top flight.

Throughout his spell at the Bournemouth, the 25-year-old Ghanaian forward made 110 appearances for the Cherries, scoring 32 goals and registering 13 assists across all competitions.

The move represents a major milestone in Semenyo’s career and further underlines the growing impact of Ghanaian players at the highest level of European football.
