Antoine Semenyo reveals improvisation behind stunning FA Cup final winner

Antoine Semenyo has opened up about his spectacular winning goal that secured Manchester City’s 1-0 victory over Chelsea in the FA Cup final.

Speaking to TNT Sports about the quality of his strike, the Ghanaian forward explained his thought process behind the audacious backheel finish. “I’ve done it a couple of times in training. Yeah, I just tried to improvise the best I could. And yeah, I went in the bottom corner, so I can’t even complain,” Semenyo stated.

The striker elaborated on why he chose such an unconventional approach to finish the chance. “So, I mean, it was behind me, so that was the only thing I could do. And I’m lucky I got the connection, and yeah, I went in the bottom corner,” he added.

Semenyo acknowledged that practicing tricks in training helped him execute the moment of brilliance when it mattered most. “Practice, but you know, if it goes behind me sometimes, I might try a trick or two. And yeah, it worked today, so I’m grateful,” he revealed.

The goal marked Semenyo’s 10th of the season for Manchester City, having joined the club in January 2026 from Bournemouth.
