Anthony Gordon grateful to follow Messi and Ronaldinho at Barcelona

Anthony Gordon says he is grateful to be playing for Barcelona, a club whose supporters have previously celebrated some of football’s greatest names, including Lionel Messi and Ronaldinho.

The England forward joined Barcelona from Newcastle at the start of the current season and has made six appearances for the club, providing five assists.

Speaking to Radio Catalunya, Gordon said his ambition was to help Barcelona achieve a historic season.

“I want to have a great season and win all four trophies in one campaign the league, the cup, the Super Cup and the Champions League,” he said. “That way, you are immortalised in history forever.”

Gordon also reflected on the significance of hearing his name sung by Barcelona supporters who have previously acclaimed a host of club legends.

“For fans who have chanted for players such as Messi, Ronaldinho, Xavi and Andres Iniesta to chant my name is something I am extremely grateful for,” he said.

The 20-year-old added that Barcelona had been an ambition since childhood.

“I had been thinking about playing for Barcelona since I was five or six years old,” Gordon said.

He also recalled watching the side managed by Pep Guardiola, describing it as the finest team he had ever seen.

“That team under Guardiola is the best team I have watched in my life, and I wanted to play for the best clubs,” he added.
