Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga has been recalled to the Sweden national team for the March international window after missing out in November amid reports of a dispute with manager Jon Dahl Tomasson.
The forward of Cameroonian descent’s return comes as Sweden prepares for friendly matches against Luxembourg and Northern Ireland as part of their buildup to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
His inclusion is a significant boost for the team, especially with Tottenham Hotspur forward Dejan Kulusevski ruled out due to a foot injury. Kulusevski is the only major absentee from Tomasson’s squad.
Another key returnee is experienced goalkeeper Robin Olsen, who was last called up in October. The Aston Villa shot-stopper has recently regained his place in his club’s starting lineup, making him a valuable addition to the squad.
Despite Sweden not playing any competitive matches this month, Tomasson has made minimal changes to his team, indicating his confidence in the current squad.
However, there is one new face—Elfsborg midfielder Besfort Zeneli. The 22-year-old, born in Säter, Sweden, has switched international allegiance from Kosovo, whom he previously represented at the U21 level.
Tomasson will have a strong attacking lineup at his disposal, with Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak and Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyökeres among the forwards. Meanwhile, Manchester United defender Victor Lindelöf will continue as Sweden’s captain.
Sweden will use these friendly matches to fine-tune their squad as they aim for a strong qualification campaign for the 2026 World Cup.
