Union Sportive d’Orléans officially confirmed on Friday the departure of Anthar Yahia, bringing an end to the former Algerian international’s three-year spell with the club as General Manager. The Ligue 2 side released a brief statement announcing the decision, which takes immediate effect, as the team looks to reorganize amid a challenging sporting period.
“In view of the club’s current sporting situation, and the need to prepare for upcoming sporting objectives, US Orléans and Mr. Anthar Yahia have decided to end their collaboration with immediate effect,” the club said in its official communiqué.
Yahia’s exit marks the close of an important chapter both for the player-turned-executive and for Orléans. Since joining the club’s management structure, the former defender had been involved in overseeing sporting operations and contributing to the club’s long-term strategy. His experience as a professional footballer, particularly at the international level with Algeria, had been seen as a valuable asset in guiding the team’s development.
Best remembered for scoring the decisive goal that sent Algeria to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Yahia remains a respected figure in Algerian football. His leadership qualities and strong personality helped him transition into an administrative role after his playing career, and his work at Orléans was widely regarded as a step toward bigger responsibilities within the football world.
Unsurprisingly, news of his departure has quickly fueled speculation about his future, particularly regarding a possible return to Algerian football in an official capacity. Rumors have resurfaced suggesting that Yahia could consider a role within the Algerian Football Federation (FAF), potentially even a candidacy for its presidency in the coming years.
However, the 37-year-old has sought to temper expectations. Speaking in an interview with Compétition, he acknowledged his attachment to Algerian football while making it clear that no immediate decision has been made.
“It’s a project that will always be close to my heart, but today I’m not the one making the decision,” he said. “I want to take this opportunity to commend everything they’ve done, whether it’s Kheireddine Zetchi at the head of the Federation or Djamel Belmadi and his staff with the national team.”
His comments suggest both respect for the current leadership and a cautious approach regarding his own ambitions. Still, many observers believe that his profile and experience could make him a strong candidate should he choose to enter the race.
The timing is notable, as current FAF president Kheireddine Zetchi recently announced that he does not intend to seek another term. His decision could open the door for new figures to emerge and reshape the federation’s future direction.
For now, Yahia’s next move remains uncertain, but his departure from Orléans has clearly set the stage for a new chapter, one that could potentially bring him back to the forefront of Algerian football administration.
