Ansu Fati’s start to life at AS Monaco will take a little longer as head coach Adi Hütter confirmed the forward will not feature against Lille this weekend.
The Spanish attacker, who arrived on loan from Barcelona, is still working toward full fitness and is being carefully managed by the medical team.
Fati, just 22, carries the weight of high expectations after breaking through at Barcelona with dazzling performances as a teenager. However, his journey has been slowed by repeated injuries, most notably a serious hamstring problem during the 2020-21 season. Since then, questions about his long-term durability have followed him.
Speaking to reporters ahead of Sunday’s clash, Hütter shared why the club is taking extra care with the winger. “He’s a very good player. Everyone knows that. But in football, you also need to be in good physical condition. That’s why we’re protecting him a little longer than the others.”
Monaco fans will now hope Fati returns stronger after the September international break, eager to finally see him light up Ligue 1.
