Ansu Fati is closing in on his long-awaited return to competitive football after being included in AS Monaco’s squad for Saturday’s Ligue 1 encounter against Toulouse.

The former Barcelona forward has endured a frustrating start to the 2026/27 campaign after suffering a calf injury during pre-season. The setback prevented him from making an official appearance for the French club this season, but he has now recovered sufficiently to rejoin the matchday squad. AS Monaco

Monaco coach Filipe Luis has praised Fati’s attacking qualities and believes the Spaniard can provide a valuable threat around the opposition penalty area.

“He is exceptional, very talented and extremely dangerous around the opposition penalty area,” the coach said.

However, the Brazilian acknowledged that Fati will need time to regain his match sharpness after spending several months away from competitive action.

“His last official match was five months ago, so he obviously needs playing time,” Filipe Luís added.

Monaco welcome Toulouse to the Stade Louis-II for their sixth Ligue 1 fixture of the season, with kick-off scheduled for 20:45 local time. The forward’s inclusion offers the possibility of a gradual return, although the final decision on his minutes will depend on the coaching staff.

Fati previously impressed during his loan spell at Monaco before making the move permanent this summer. His return could provide another attacking option as the club looks to maintain its strong start to the campaign.

After an extended spell on the sidelines, the 23-year-old will be eager to put his injury problems behind him and contribute to Monaco’s ambitions this season.
