Ansu Fati has been included in Barcelona’s squad for their Champions League round of 16 first-leg match against Benfica, marking his return after a prolonged injury absence.
The 22-year-old winger, who has not played since November 2024, was named in the list released by head coach Hansi Flick on Tuesday, March 4, 2025.
Fati’s selection comes as a boost for the Spanish side ahead of their crucial European tie.
Once considered a key figure in Barcelona’s attack, the young forward has struggled with injuries since returning from a loan spell at Brighton.
So far this season, he has managed only eight appearances, accumulating just 186 minutes of playing time.
Despite his limited involvement, Flick has opted to include Fati in the 24-man squad traveling to Lisbon.
However, only 23 players can be registered for the matchday squad, making it uncertain whether he will make the final selection.
With third-choice goalkeeper Diego Kochen also named in the squad, Fati’s inclusion in the matchday lineup could depend on whether the coaching staff opts to omit Kochen.
Meanwhile, midfielder Gavi, who missed Monday’s training session due to illness, has been declared fit and is available for selection.
Barcelona will be aiming for a strong performance in Portugal as they seek to advance to the quarter-finals of the competition.
