Ligue 1: AS Monaco complete permanent signing of Ansu Fati
Spanish forward secures long-term future after successful loan spell from Barcelona
AS Monaco have completed the permanent signing of Spanish forward Ansu Fati after activating the purchase option in his loan agreement with Barcelona, with the Ligue 1 club handing the 23-year-old a contract until June 2030.
The announcement ends Fati’s long association with Barcelona, where he made his senior debut in 2019, and confirms that he will continue his career in the Principality following an impressive season on loan.
Monaco confirmed the deal in a statement on Tuesday, praising the forward’s contribution during the 2025-26 campaign after he established himself as one of the club’s key attacking players.
Fati made 30 appearances in all competitions during the season, scoring 12 goals, with 11 of those coming in Ligue 1.
His goalscoring return saw him average one goal every 110 minutes, underlining the impact he made in his first season with the French club.
Among his standout performances was a brace against Nice, while his displays earned him the Ligue 1 Man of the Match award on three occasions.
The move brings an end to Fati’s spell at Barcelona, where he featured in 123 official matches and scored 29 goals after making his first-team debut six years ago.
In confirming the permanent transfer, Monaco highlighted the qualities that persuaded the club to retain the Spain international.
“Ansu Fati has further cemented his place at AS Monaco, where he will continue to put his technical qualities and goal-scoring instinct at the service of the Monegasque team,” the club stated in its press release.
The permanent deal follows a campaign in which Fati became an important figure in Monaco’s attack, delivering consistent performances throughout the season.
His ability to score regularly and influence matches convinced the Ligue 1 side to activate the purchase option included in his loan agreement, ensuring he remains with the club for the foreseeable future.
The agreement also closes a significant chapter in the forward’s career, with his departure ending his time at Barcelona after 123 appearances and 29 goals for the Catalan club.
Having impressed during his first season in France, Fati will now continue his development at Monaco after committing his future to the club until 2030.
