Issa Hayatou, the current president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), is pleased with the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s (CAS) decision to reject Ivorian Jacques Anouma’s request to annul the decision invalidating his candidacy for the CAF presidency. Hayatou, who has been in office since 1987 and is the sole candidate for re-election, expressed satisfaction with the CAS ruling and highlighted the exemplary behavior of the Executive Committee and national member associations in recognizing the principle of the sovereignty of the General Assembly.
While Hayatou is content with the outcome, Anouma remains determined to bring about real change in the management of African football, despite his disappointment with the decision. The CAS ruling solidifies Hayatou’s position as the leading candidate for re-election.
