Anouar El Azzouzi: Morocco-Netherlands midfielder linked with 1. FC Nuremberg move

Morocco-Netherlands midfielder Anouar El Azzouzi, currently without a club after leaving Fortuna Dusseldorf, has been linked with a move to 2. Bundesliga side 1. FC Nuremberg.

El Azzouzi, 25, is a right-footed central midfielder whose market value is currently estimated at 1.5m. Standing at 1.87m, he would add physical presence and depth in the middle of the pitch for Nuremberg if a deal were to progress.

The Veenendaal-born player became a free agent on 1 July 2026 following his departure from Fortuna Dusseldorf, making a potential transfer to Nuremberg possible without a fee. His most recent valuation declined from a peak of 2m during his time in Dusseldorf but remains at a level that reflects his experience in Germany and the Netherlands.

Before his stint in the 2. Bundesliga, El Azzouzis reputation grew at PEC Zwolle, where his market value rose steadily from 400,000 to 1.8m between late 2023 and mid-2025. That progression followed an earlier spell with FC Dordrecht, where consistent development saw his value increase from 25,000 to 450,000 over two years.

Nurembergs interest comes as the midfielder looks for the next step in a senior career that has taken him from Dutch football into the German second tier. His dual Moroccan and Dutch nationality and experience across both countries systems add further appeal for a club looking for a ready-made option in central midfield.

Talk of a move remains at rumour stage, with no agreement announced between El Azzouzi and Nuremberg.
