ANGOLA – Is Trésor Mputu on the Way Out of Kabuscorp?

Mputu Faces Uncertain Future at Kabuscorp Amid Coaching Rift

Trésor Mputu’s time at Kabuscorp appears to be nearing an end, with tensions rising between the Congolese midfielder and the Angolan club’s new coaching staff.

Reports in the Angolan press, including A Bola, suggest that Mputu has fallen out of favour following the appointment of Miller Gomes as head coach. The fallout reportedly stems from a clash between the two men, with Mputu accused of disrespecting the new manager — an incident that has led to his exclusion from the first-team squad.

Kabuscorp, who were recently eliminated from the CAF Confederation Cup, made sweeping changes to their technical bench in the aftermath of their continental exit. However, the managerial shake-up appears to have had unintended consequences for the former DR Congo international.

Mputu, once regarded as one of Africa’s brightest talents, has not featured in recent matches and now finds his future in Luanda hanging in the balance. Sources close to the club say a departure is likely, with speculation growing about a possible return to his former club, TP Mazembe.

The 29-year-old playmaker left Mazembe two years ago in a transfer that divided opinion across Congolese football. A long-time captain and talisman for the Ravens, Mputu’s departure sparked debate over loyalty and ambition. Now, a reunion may be on the cards, as Mazembe look to strengthen their squad and Mputu seeks a fresh start.

Neither Kabuscorp nor Mputu’s representatives have officially commented on the dispute, but signs increasingly point to an imminent parting of ways.

Should a return to Lubumbashi materialise, it would mark a dramatic homecoming for one of DR Congo’s most celebrated footballers, whose career has been marked by brilliance on the pitch and controversy off it.

As the situation develops, the footballing future of Trésor Mputu — once dubbed the “Congolese Zidane” — remains uncertain.
