Andy Carroll names Kevin Adams as man convicted of sexually assaulting him

Former England and Liverpool striker Andy Carroll has identified dance choreographer and teacher Kevin Adams as the man who sexually assaulted him in 2019.

Carroll, 37, revealed details of the incident in his autobiography, saying he woke up at home to find an acquaintance attempting to assault him. He reported what happened, and the attacker was later convicted and sentenced to prison.

The footballer said the experience had a lasting effect on his life and made it difficult for him to concentrate, including during matches.

“I was sexually assaulted. It is terrifying even to think about, and only a very small number of people knew about it until now,” Carroll wrote.

He said he had hesitated for a long time before deciding to discuss the assault publicly in his book.

“It affected every part of my life,” he added. “I was thinking about it every day, which made it difficult to focus on anything else, including football. The trauma did not disappear.”

Several weeks after publishing his account, Carroll told The Sun that Adams was the person responsible. Adams is known for his work as a choreographer and dance teacher, including appearances on programmes linked to the BBC.

Adams was convicted at Chelmsford Crown Court in 2023 and sentenced to prison. According to British reports, he was also placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years and banned from entering the town where Carroll lives.

Carroll confirmed Adams’ identity after it appeared in publicly available court documents.

“Now that Kevin Adams has been identified in court documents as the person who assaulted me, I can confirm it,” he said. “I hope I can finally close this chapter of my life, and I am ready to move forward.”

He said the incident had caused serious damage to both his own life and that of those close to him.

“This incident had a devastating impact on my life and the lives of my loved ones,” Carroll said.

The former striker added that another reason for speaking publicly was the hope that sharing his experience could help other people who had gone through similar ordeals.
