Beninese international Andreas Hountondji will not be donning Rodez colors next season, as the winger concludes his loan spell and returns to his parent club, Stade Malherbe Caen. This comes after a remarkable 2023/24 season that has put Hountondji in the spotlight of several prominent European clubs.
Hountondji, 21, joined Rodez AF on loan from Caen last summer, aiming to gain valuable experience and more playing time.
He quickly became a key figure in the Ruthenian attack, delivering performances that not only solidified his role in the team but also attracted attention from clubs in Belgium, England, and Italy.
In a statement on its official website, Rodez AF confirmed Hountondji’s departure, expressing gratitude for his contributions.
“Arriving on loan this summer from SM Caen, Andreas Hountondji returns to Normandy at the end of this 2023/2024 season.
With the desire to gain experience and playing time, our number 17 quickly established himself as an essential element of the Ruthenian attack… Humble, discreet, hard worker and appreciated by all, he progressed from week to week, contributing to the collective success of this historic season.
Thank you for everything you have brought to the club, Andreas. We wish you the best for the rest of your career.”
Hountondji’s impact at Rodez has been profound. He made history by becoming the club’s top scorer in a single season with 14 league goals.
Overall, he scored 16 goals and provided seven assists in 39 appearances across all competitions, showcasing his ability to influence the game both as a scorer and a playmaker.
As he returns to Caen, speculation about Hountondji’s future continues to grow.
His standout performances have not gone unnoticed, and he is now reportedly on the radar of several top-flight clubs across Europe.
Whether he stays with Caen or moves on to a new challenge, Hountondji’s future looks promising, and his time at Rodez will be remembered as a pivotal chapter in his burgeoning career.
