Andrea Mbuyi-Mutombo Signs with Inverness in Scottish Football Move
Belgian forward Andrea Mbuyi-Mutombo, of Congolese descent, has completed a move to Scottish Championship club Inverness Caledonian Thistle on a one-year contract, with an option for an additional year. The 30-year-old striker joins the Scottish outfit from French club Fréjus-Saint-Raphaël, who compete in the third tier of French football.
Mbuyi-Mutombo’s career has seen him move through several European clubs, starting from his youth days at RSC Anderlecht, one of Belgium’s top football academies. His professional journey began in 2006 with FC Brussels, before catching the eye of Premier League side Portsmouth. In 2008, he was loaned to Belgian club SV Zulte Waregem, where he made an immediate impact, scoring three goals in 14 appearances. Despite an impressive spell, Mbuyi-Mutombo returned to Portsmouth, where he struggled to secure a place in the first team.
In 2009, after a brief return to Portsmouth, Mbuyi-Mutombo signed a two-year deal with Standard Liège, one of Belgium’s prominent clubs. However, after two seasons, he moved on, as coach José Riga did not see him fitting into the team’s future plans. The forward then spent a season at Cercle Bruges, though his time there was largely uneventful, as he found limited playing opportunities.
Looking for a fresh start, Mbuyi-Mutombo made the move to Croatia in 2013, signing with HNK Rijeka. It was here that he looked to revive his career, albeit with mixed results, as he spent just one season with the Croatian side.
Now, with his move to Inverness, Mbuyi-Mutombo aims to reinvigorate his career in Scotland’s second division. The versatile forward will bring much-needed experience and depth to the Inverness attack, as the club looks to challenge for promotion in the coming season.
His signing marks another chapter in a career that has spanned multiple countries and leagues, with Mbuyi-Mutombo hoping his move to Scotland will provide the opportunity to recapture his form and make a significant impact at Inverness.
