Manchester United ready to cut ties with Onana

André Onana is set to rejoin Manchester United’s preseason camp at Carrington, with the Cameroon international expected to report for duty as preparations for the new campaign begin under head coach Michael Carrick.

The goalkeeper’s return marks a key step in United’s summer reset, as the club brings players back together for early training sessions ahead of a demanding season.

Onana, who spent the previous campaign on loan at Trabzonspor, is now due back in Manchester as part of the initial preseason group.

His arrival at Carrington comes as United begin to assess their squad in full, with preseason offering players the opportunity to impress the new coaching staff.

Onana’s inclusion in the camp ensures he will be part of those early evaluations, even as his long-term future remains unresolved.

Carrington return confirmed

According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Onana is expected to link up with the squad for preseason under Carrick’s leadership as plans for the new season take shape.

“André Onana returns to Manchester United and current plan is to join preseason under Michael Carrick.”

The return gives the goalkeeper a chance to train with the squad again, re-establish his rhythm, and be assessed in a fresh environment after his spell away from Old Trafford.

Back from Trabzonspor loan spell

Onana’s preseason return follows a loan spell at Trabzonspor, where he spent the last campaign and ended the season by lifting the Turkish Cup. His time in Turkey provided regular football and a positive end to the season, with the club also expressing interest in retaining him.

However, despite Trabzonspor’s desire to extend his stay, the immediate plan places him back at Manchester United for preseason rather than a permanent departure.

“Understand Trabzonspor are still keen on keeping Onana and would like to discuss another loan deal, valid until June 2027.

“Talks will follow with #MUFC and Onana’s camp.”

Preseason opportunity at United

Onana’s presence in preseason comes at a time when United are reshaping their squad and evaluating players across all departments.

The training camp will give Carrick and his staff a chance to work closely with the goalkeeper before any decisions are made regarding his future.

Having made 102 appearances for the club since joining from Inter Milan in 2023, Onana returns to a competitive goalkeeping setup but will still be given the opportunity to participate fully in preseason preparations.
