Andre Onana not in Manchester United plans despite desire to return

Andre Onana is unlikely to get a second chance at Manchester United next season, despite impressing on loan at Trabzonspor.

According to ESPN, United do not intend to reintegrate the 30-year-old goalkeeper into their squad and are instead looking for a permanent solution for his future.

Onana had hoped to come back to Old Trafford and fight for the number one spot currently held by Senne Lammens, but the club’s hierarchy are planning to move in a different direction. United are also open to signing another goalkeeper this summer, with backup Altay Bayindir expected to leave amid interest from Besiktas.

The Cameroon international joined United from Inter Milan in 2023 and remains under contract until 2028. However, his increased salary following United’s return to the Champions League is seen as an additional incentive to sell, even if that same wage packet could make finding a buyer more complicated.

Onana’s situation forms part of a wider overhaul at Old Trafford, with the club preparing significant changes to the squad ahead of next season and aiming to reshape key positions, including in goal.
