André Ayew has expressed his heartfelt farewell to Bafétimbi Gomis, the former France international, after the striker announced his retirement from football. The two players, who shared a memorable spell at Swansea City, formed a formidable attacking partnership in the Premier League during the 2015/16 season.
Gomis, 39, spent two seasons at Swansea, where he and Ayew combined to cause chaos for Premier League defenders.
Following his departure from the Welsh club in 2017, Gomis went on to enjoy a successful career in Turkey with Galatasaray.
On social media, Ayew paid tribute to his former teammate, calling their shared experiences both on and off the pitch “unforgettable.”
“Today, a page turns for my brother. Happy retirement to you, my friend! We have shared unforgettable moments, on and off the field.
Thank you for all the memories and battles, for the inspiration and support. This is not the end, just the beginning of a new adventure! We are together, Lion, Bafétimbi Gomis,” Ayew wrote on Instagram.
Before their time together at Swansea, Ayew and Gomis had a competitive rivalry in France’s Ligue 1. Ayew represented Marseille, while Gomis was playing for Olympique Lyonnais.
Their paths would later cross in the Premier League, where they built a strong on-field relationship that left a lasting impact on both Swansea City and their supporters.
Gomis’s decision to retire marks the end of an illustrious playing career, but Ayew’s message emphasizes that this is not the end for their bond.
With mutual respect and admiration, the pair’s footballing journey continues off the field.
